Durango Code vs GitHub Copilot
GitHub Copilot is GitHub's AI coding assistant. Besides completions in almost every editor, it now has a Copilot app for macOS, Windows and Linux and a Copilot CLI that run agent sessions in parallel, each in its own worktree or a cloud sandbox, with models from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI and others under one usage-based bill.
Copilot can also run Claude and Codex as cloud agents on GitHub (in public preview), billed to your Copilot plan. Durango Code takes a different approach: it runs Claude Code, Codex and the rest on your own machine, on the subscriptions you already pay each provider for.

Which should you choose?
Choose Durango Code if
- You already pay for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Grok or Kimi and want to use those plans rather than buy AI credits.
- You want Claude Code and Codex running locally on your machine, not as cloud agents billed to Copilot.
- You want a free, open-source app that isn't tied to GitHub.
Choose GitHub Copilot if
- Your team lives on GitHub and wants agents that work from issues and open pull requests.
- You want many vendors' models under one bill with enterprise admin controls.
- You want completions in your editor as well as agents.

Questions
Can Copilot run Claude Code and Codex?
Copilot offers Claude and Codex as third-party cloud agents on GitHub, in public preview. They run on GitHub, are billed to your Copilot plan in AI credits and Actions minutes, and open pull requests. Durango Code runs Claude Code and Codex locally on your own Claude and ChatGPT plans.
How does Copilot pricing work now?
Since June 2026 Copilot plans include a monthly amount of usage-based AI credits: Pro is $10/month, Pro+ $39, Max $100, and Business and Enterprise are $19 and $39 per user. Code completions don't use credits.
Can I use both?
Yes. Many people keep Copilot for completions and GitHub workflows and use Durango Code to run and compare their other agents.
